  • Cage Contents: The Budgie cage must contain the following:
    • Perch: It is preferable to place a high and low perch near food and water. It is also preferable to choose a natural perch from the branches of fruit trees or willows. As the natural perch is useful for the health of the feet and beaks, and the diameter of the perch must be appropriate to the size of the bird.
    • Games: Some types of games can be placed in the cage of the budgerigar, provided that their size and number are commensurate with the size of the cage, and among the most common games of budgerigars ; Swings, plastic balls, mirrors, bells, plastic or wooden ladders, baskets woven from natural material, boxes and paper rolls.
    • Bathtub: Budgies love to take a shower, so it is recommended to provide the cage with a plastic basin, provided that its size is approximately similar to the size of the bird, and to put an appropriate amount of water in it, taking into account that it is attached to the cage so that it can be filled from the outside.

Feeding budgies

Veterinarians recommend not only offering seeds to budgerigars; Because this can cause them health problems, so it is preferable that the diet of the budgerigars includes pellets, fruits, and fresh vegetables including leafy vegetables, in addition to seeds, and it is also advised to add sea tongue to bird food to provide them with calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and zinc, and avoid feeding him avocado, chocolate, onions, garlic, caffeine or alcohol; Because it is considered toxic to her.

Budgerigar care

There are some things that must be taken into account in order to care for budgerigars , the most important of which are the following:

  • Putting food in metal containers instead of plastic containers that attract bacteria.
  • Change drinking water daily to prevent the growth of bacteria in it, and make sure to provide a sufficient amount of water for him.
  • Clean the cage at least once a week using mild soap and water.
  • Place a blanket over the cage when it is time for the birds to sleep, in order to reduce the sounds around them and prevent the arrival of air currents, taking into account that there is sufficient ventilation, and a dim light can be placed if the birds are afraid of the dark.
  • Leave the birds to fly freely in a closed room from time to time after making sure that there is no outlet from which they can escape, and after removing dogs or cats from the room.
  • Refer to the veterinarian for a medical examination at least once a year, and contact the doctor when the following symptoms appear:
    • Secretions from the eye or beak.
    • The appearance of mucus on the feathers.
    • Abnormal breathing.
    • Stool color change.
    • Weight loss.
