Canary Chick Growth Stages

What are the stages of growth of a canary chick?

Canary breeding occurs between the fall and spring seasons, and before the completion of the breeding process, the canary feathers fall off to be replaced by new feathers. It is indicated that the female canary lays between 2-6 eggs, but it must be ensured that the eggs are fertilized; Because the majority of eggs are not fertilized, as they are confirmed by a lamp on the fifth day of their incubation, when they must be disposed of.

It is worth noting that the female canary sits on the fertilized eggs until the 14th day of its incubation until the chicks come out,  Here is an explanation of the stages of growth of the canary chick:

the eggs hatched

The eggs hatch on the 13th or 14th day of incubation, when the canary chick is weak and featherless, but after a week has passed, it gathers its strength, opens its eyes, and feathers begin to appear.

Chick care

With the beginning of a new breeding, the old nest must be disposed of; so that the female canary can build her new nest, and transfer the chicks with the male to another cage; In order for it to depend on itself, with the need to provide food and water for the canary chicks, provided that the chicks’ food is varied between seeds such as: flax, vegetables such as: watercress and lettuce, and fruits such as: apples and strawberries.

A container of water must be provided inside the cage for bathing, and if this is done, it must be raised. So that the birds do not drink from it, and attention must be paid to placing the cage in a suitable high place away from the air, while not moving the cage too much so as not to spoil the eggs, and it is mentioned that when trying to catch the canary chick, the hand must be placed on its back, with attention that its tail is flat. , and his head between the fingers.

Canary chicks often leave their nest on the 15th day, but if they are malnourished, and the weather is cold, they delay their exit until the 17th day. It is reported that with the completion of the 21st day, the canary baby tries to feed on his own with his partial dependence on his parents until he completes 27 days.

Weaning and independence

With the completion of a small canary of 28 days, it becomes independent, and it is necessary to separate it from its parents, as a daily seed mixture must be provided for the small canary, with the addition of soft food such as boiled eggs, and it is indicated that it is possible to wean a small canary before 28 days, but not after that unless if There was a lack of nutrition.

Feathers appear before puberty

The canary chick’s feathers begin to appear after a week, and it is called pin feathers, and it appears in the middle of the back, and on the edges of the wings, but when it completes 14 days, its body becomes completely covered with feathers.

Puberty and reproduction

The canary chick continues to grow independently until it matures, and is able to reproduce, at the age of 8 months, but this differs sometimes, as there are some canary birds that mature at the age of 6 months, and some of them mature at the age of 10 months, and this is a little.

Canary birds must reach several months before the breeding season, as if they reach a little before the breeding season, they will not reproduce, and other factors that stimulate reproduction must be provided, namely: lighting, heat, and nutrition.

How to take care of canary chicks at home

The breeder must refer to the mechanism of caring for the canary chick in the event of the death of its parents, or the failure of the mother of the chicks to feed her young; This is because she did not know the matter, as she did not receive food from her mother before, and the following is an explanation of the mechanism for taking care of the chicks at home:
