It is scientifically called (upupa), and it is a type of bird that is known by its brown crest, spotted with black, while the rest of its body is black with white feathers. This bird is distinguished by its long and thin beak, and it soars in the sky in a wonderful way. Its food contains insects and worms, so the farmers called it “the farmer’s friend”, because of what it does of cleaning agricultural lands from worms, larvae and pests.

The presence of a hoopoe in a place is an indication of the purity of the environment from chemicals such as pesticides. This bird is common among vineyards and savanna meadows, as well as in scattered trees, as it is a frequent traveler in the right place and available food.

The hoopoe was mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, by our master Solomon, peace be upon him, because God Almighty said in his holy book: {And he inspected the bird and said, “Why do I not see the hoopoe, or was it among those who are absent?” (20) Surah An-Naml.

Types of hoopoe and its characteristics

Scientists classified the hoopoe into three types: the Eurasian hoopoe, the African hoopoe, and the Madagascar hoopoe. The classification was based on the difference in color and sound. One of the most important characteristics of the hoopoe is walking quietly, as it bathes in sand, and when it feels fear or excitement, it raises its head feathers to the top, and lowers them when it feels comfortable and reassured, and sprays a black oily spray with a foul smell from the end of its tail, which helps it to keep danger away from it and its young.

This bird possesses the characteristic of elusiveness, camouflage, and then rapid flight, in order to escape from the enemy, such as falcons and owls. One of the most important characteristics that distinguishes the hoopoe is cooperation and love.

Hoopoe coexistence places and method of reproduction

The hoopoe prefers places with mild weather, and looks for the sun and a warm place, so when winter approaches in Europe, the hoopoe travels to Africa, where the climate is mild, and its speed is estimated at forty kilometers per hour, for a distance of eight thousand kilometers. The hoopoe reproduces with eggs, and the female lays her eggs after lying on it for between twelve to fifteen days, during which the male provides food for the female, and the female lays between five and seven eggs only.

Hoopoe bone has great magnetic energy; Where this magnetic energy increases the strength of the human magnetic field, and the hoopoe bone is obtained by catching it, then dissecting it, pulling the bone from it, and placing the bone in running water, so that all bones go in one direction, except for one bone that runs in the opposite direction.
