  1. Cryptococcosis

  • It is a fungal disease caused by the fungus Cryptococcus neoformans. This fungus is found in nature in tree wood, soil, and bird droppings, especially pigeons.
  • It is transmitted to humans through inhalation of bird droppings laden with fungi after they dry.
  • The bird does not show symptoms, as it is a natural carrier of this fungus.
  • People most vulnerable to infection are the elderly and those with weak immune systems.
  • Symptoms appear in humans in the form of cough, shortness of breath, high temperature, and in the late stages it causes meningitis and severe headache.

  1. Histoplasmosis

  • It is a fungal disease caused by the fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. This fungus is found in soil and bat and bird droppings.
  • It is transmitted to humans by inhaling fungus-laden dust.
  • People most susceptible to infection are the elderly, infants, and those with weak immune systems.
  • Symptoms rarely appear except in cases of weak immunity (cough, fatigue, high fever). Symptoms appear 3-17 days after exposure to the infection.

  • It is a bacterial disease caused by the bacterium Chlamydophila psittaci. Affected birds can show symptoms such as (poor appetite – discharge from the eyes and nose – green diarrhea – difficulty breathing). #You should note these symptoms when buying birds
  • Bacteria in bird droppings produce nasal and eye secretions.
  • Anyone exposed to this disease can become infected and develop symptoms, especially bird breeders, because they are in constant contact.
  • Symptoms appear in humans in the form of (high temperature – shivering – difficulty breathing – headache – dry cough – muscle pain).

  1. When buying birds, you must choose a reliable dealer and choose a bird that is in good health and does not have any disease symptoms such as eye and nose discharge or lethargy and lack of eating.
  2. Allocate a well-ventilated space for the bird.
  3. Constantly clean the cage of waste (wear a bag or gloves – cover the nose and mouth when cleaning) and dispose of waste in a safe way.
  4. Do not allow children and those with weak immune systems to be exposed to birds in close proximity to avoid inhaling dust laden with bacteria and fungi.
