There are many things that can be used as guidance when wanting to secure a suitable cage for lovebirds to live in , and among these guidelines are the following:

  • Securing enough space for each pair of lovebirds that a person has, as it is recommended that one pair of these birds have a cage whose height is not less than 81 cm, and its width and length are not less than half a meter.
  • Do not place pairs of different types of lovebirds within the same cage, as this may cause conflicts between them.
  • Hanging dishes on the sides of the cage, so that these dishes contain food and water, taking care to raise these dishes from the floor of the cage so as not to be contaminated with the dirt of birds.
  • Do not put plastic materials inside the cage of lovebirds, as the bird may eat them.
  • Put some branches from trees inside the lovebird cage.
  • Place the cage in a well-ventilated area, exposed to sunlight.

Feeding lovebirds

Lovebirds need a daily nutritional amount ranging from 45 to 60 grams of food per bird, and care must be taken to form an integrated diet for lovebirds when breeding them, and this includes the presence of some fodder, some types of nutritional supplements, and some vitamins, and these supplements can be obtained through many different varieties of fruits and vegetables; such as berries, bananas, pears, spinach, parsley, radishes, peas and many other different varieties that can be offered to these birds, and some nuts can be offered as a good source of proteins, and it should be noted the importance of not feeding avocados to birds because it may be toxic to them, and Things that should be taken into account is to provide sufficient amounts of clean water for lovebirds, and to provide water and food in ceramic containers or porcelain containers, because they may eat plastic.

Tips for caring for lovebirds

There are many different tips that can be used to take care of lovebirds, as these birds may live to a life span of more than fifteen years if appropriate care is provided for them,  and among these tips are the following: 

  • Putting many games to entertain the lovebirds inside their cages, such as ladders and swings.
  • Keeping a lovebird’s cage clean.
  • Change drinking water on a daily basis.
  • Check with your vet regularly, and this can be done once a year
