The Belgian Fancy Canary is considered one of the oldest breeds of ancient canaries, and it is descended from a famous breed with a long neck and a slender body, while its wings are long, compact and thin, as well as its tail, and it can be distinguished from its slender and relatively longer legs among the many types of canaries other.

The Belgian Fancy bird is distinguished by its many mellow colors. They are white, yellow, green, orange or multicolored.

The frilled canary’s feathers are described as ruffled and untidy, and it is one of the smallest types of canaries in size. These birds usually stand on the branch with their feet astride in the shape of a number seven, and their song is one of the most beautiful melodies issued by canaries.

 

The different types of frilled canaries arose from a mutation that occurred in the old Dutch breed of canaries in the nineteenth century, and this mutation affected the formation of feathers and their random growth to appear frilled, and they are now found in a limited way around the world, and are spread in the United States of America.

The Gloster Canary is very similar to the crested canary, in terms of the shape of the feathers at the front of the head, except that it is smaller in size, and its head feathers appear as a circle of feathers above its small head and is distinguished by its prominent beak.

 

The Gloster is a hybrid bird of several breeds of canary, and it first appeared in the English countryside in 1920 AD. Despite its small size, it is a strong endurance bird, with excellent health, friendly behavior, and can live up to 12 years.

The Gloster bird needs a healthy diet, such as oats, sunflower seeds, and other nutritious seeds, to achieve nutritional balance. It is also preferable to feed it fresh fruits and vegetables, such as: oranges, apples, pears, cabbage, and carrots, and it is watered twice a day with fresh water.

Portuguese Canary

The Portuguese Canary  is considered a medium-sized bird, and it was hybridized in Portugal and named after that, and it has long wings that are proportional to the tail.

 

Some Portuguese canaries have what look like three small trumpets that protrude from their heads, while others have smooth and flat heads, and Portuguese canaries share with most canaries a variety of colors, such as: white, pink, orange, gray, and others.

The Lancashire Canary  is one of the longest types of canaries; It reaches a length of about 20 cm when fully grown, and the Lancashire canary comes in either white or yellow.

Some Lancashire canaries have small crowns of feathers, and it is indicated that these birds need a large amount of protein to support the growth of their bodies during the feather production season.

The Stafford Canary  is the newest bird to appear in the canary world. It is believed that it was hybridized for the first time in the seventies or eighties.

These birds enjoy spending their time in their cages rather than in a large space. They are very shy and fear loud noises and a lot of movement, so these birds usually do not need anything more than a safe place to sleep, food, water, and a hammock.

Canaries are herbivorous birds that feed on plants, and seeds are the main component of their diet, in addition to feeding on some insects and small invertebrates, such as: flies, mosquitoes, spiders, beetles, grasshoppers, and others.

These birds live in a variety of habitats and ecosystems, such as: forests, woodlands, coasts, sand dunes, orchards, forest edges, etc. They also usually live in groups and associate with humans; so they can often be found in parks, gardens, and backyards.
